REVENGE was sweet as Market Harborough under-16s put behind them the defeat by Oadby in last season's county cup final – by beating them 29-8 in round one of the current competition
This home triumph was reward for a relentless and awesome display of rugby from all 22 players, continuing a superb start to the season which has seen three wins from as many starts.

Harborough’s try-scorers were Owen Nicholls, Stephen Squires, Ja
ke Hayes, Tom Hemmings and Lewis Townsend. Ben Davies added two conversions.

l Several of Harborough’s girl players are on course for action with Leicestershire following county trials at the weekend.

Girls who scored enough points to represent the county this season are: under-15s – Anna Williams, Claire Formoy, Ella Kirk; under-18s – Charlotte Parker, Louisa Bard, Katie Tranter.

Several girls did not attend trials, through injury, but they will be given the chance to trial once they have recovered.

l Harborough under-14s marked their first home match of the season with a convincing 46-7 victory over Melton Mowbray.

It was by no means an easy win as Harborough had to work hard for every point.

In the main the tries came from sustained pressure, with the forwards winning good ball and the side making best use of possession when they had it.

Of Harborough’s eight tries, only three were converted, and had the match been closer this might have cost dearly.

Seven different Harborough players put points on the board in a solid team performance.

l Harborough’s ‘Vets and Jets’ 51 crushed their Rushden and Higham 3rd XV counterparts 51-0.

On a pitch made for running rugby, the Vets soon got into their running game to blitz a shellshocked Rushden team.

Right wing Neil Towers opened the scoring with his first touchdown for the club.

As Harborough grew in confidence, Towers took his try tally to four, backed up by scores from Russ Williamson, Mark Williams, Simon Conroy (two) and Scott Davidson.
