A FOOTBALL match held in memory of a popular Medbourne man raised more than £500 for a trust set up in his son's name.
Players from Medbourne and Little Bowden football clubs took part in the match held in memory of Dave Monk, who died in a car crash in March last year aged 27.

Proceeds from the event, which included an evening barbecue, raised the impressive total for the Noah Monk fund, a trust set up to help look after Mr Monk’s son, who was only ten months old when his dad died.

A keen footballer, Mr Monk played for both Medbourne and Little Bowden and the memorial match is now an annual fixture organised by members of both clubs.

The game saw Medbourne field a mixture of first-team and reserve players while Little Bowden fielded players from their county cup-winning side of 2003 in the first half, and their current first team in the second.

A keenly-fought contest saw Medbourne run out 5-4 winners, with Little Bowden player Nick Chapman missing a chance to level the scores when his last-minute penalty was saved.

Chairman of Medbourne Football Club John Burrows said: “The event went brilliantly. It was attended by about 200 people, which was a really fantastic turnout.

“It wasn’t just his friends and family, but lots of people from the village came along too.”

Mr Burrows thanked Sanderson Transport and everyone who attended or took part in the match for their support.
