TWO runners from Harborough Athletics Club, Hannah Eveleigh and Henrietta Streicher, won their respective age groups in the HellRunner event at Delamere Forest Park.
The HellRunner is a challenging off-road event, with twisting trails, water-filled areas and plenty of steep hills. It is a stern test for even the toughest to race all the way home over a distance of up to 12 miles.
The Harborough pair, who competed in one of the HellRunner series last year, battled hard with the aim of subduing their opponents.
Eveleigh, who has shown her talent both on the track and in cross country, won the female veteran 35-age group in 1hr 36mins 47secs. She was placed 112th overall.
Her usual training partner, Streicher, who missed most of the club's running activities last season, bounced back with a fine result, winning the female veteran 45-age group in 1.45.34 and was 233rd overall.
While Streicher and Eveleigh were engaged on the tortuous running venture, clubmate Howard Crabtree was in the USA competing in the New York marathon.
He said he was delighted to be among the 39,000-plus competitors running all the way to finish 3,051st in 3.21.42.
On the domestic front, Nicholas Turner-Henke took part in the Shepshed seven-miler, finishing 100th in 50.45.
Three other runners were in action in the Bedford River Valley Six, with Kyle Barber finishing a healthy tenth in 38.08, Yvonne Barber 70th in 58.52 and Ann Knights in 68.04.
In the North Midland Cross Country League at Berry Hill Park, Nottingham, Harborough men's A team, led by the club's reigning cross country champion Peter Swaine, William Clapp, Martin Gore and Dave Waddington finished in 81st position in a combined time of 1.12.43.
The B team comprised Hugh Delargy, Shane Edge, Martin Hughes and Rick Brown and finished 141st.
Women's squad member Jessica Edge also teamed with Megan Booler and Sarah Ward
in the under-17 junior section, finishing in a total time of
31.59.
