CRIME and anti-social behaviour concerns can be raised on the streets of Lutterworth and Broughton Astley later this month.
Police and volunteers will be pounding the streets on October 16 and 17 to gauge people’s worries over crime in the community.

It has has been organised by the Harborough District Community Safety Partnership – a group made up of district councill
ors, police, Neighbourhood Watch members and others – as part of the national Not in My Neighbourhood week running from October 13 to 18.

A spokesman for the district council said: “The objectives are to build on community confidence and reassurance through checking and cleaning up the environment, inspecting public places, parks and streets for defects, identify places for danger, look for risks of fire or arson, talk to people on the streets and carry out a leaflet drop.”

“Our message is ‘you don't have to put up with it, tell us’.”

He added that another aim was to increase awareness of what the police and other agencies are doing to tackle crime and untidy areas.

Lutterworth and Broughton Astley have been targeted for the operation because of historical patterns of disproportionate levels of concern over anti social behaviour, the spokesman said.

The schedule is as follows:

l Thursday, October 16: Police, the district council’s enforcement and street cleansing teams, town and parish council representatives and county council highways officials will pound Lutterworth’s streets in the day. At night, police and youth workers will speak to teenagers for their views.

l Friday, October 17. As above, in Broughton Astley.

l Saturday, October 18: The police Chill Out Bus will visit Lutterworth Town Hall car park between 10am-1pm. A community litter pick will set off from the town hall at 10am.

l Broughton Astley: The police Rural Beat Bus will be in Orchard Street Car Park between 10am-1pm.
