A HAWAIIAN themed garden party at St Mary's House in Lutterworth attracted about 400 people.
The event was organised by East Midlands Housing for residents, their families, staff and guests.

Guests were greeted with a glass of Buck’s Fizz and a string of Hawaiian-style flowers, otherwise known as leis, to wear around their necks.

Pupils from Redmoor High School’s band, in Hinckley, played Hawaiian music on steel drums, as visitors made their way around the many stalls and stopped off to enjoy cream teas.

Residents also gave a demonstration of the armchair exercises they have been learning in classes over the past few weeks.

Jean Harvey, St Mary’s House team leader, said: “It was absolutely amazing and outdid our expectations. Residents tell us they had a fantastic time.”

The event raised £753 for four charities, St Mary’s House Tenants’ Fund, Diabetes UK, Heart Link, the children’s charity at Glenfield Hospital, and a South African school in Mafeking.

As well as fundraising, the garden party offered an opportunity for people living in and around Lutterworth to visit the scheme and find out more. St Mary’s House is an Extra Care supported housing scheme for people over 55.
