A LUTTERWORTH optician store is calling on people in the town to do their bit to help build a £250,000 eye clinic in Africa.
This Sunday, Specsavers, in Church Street, will be contributing ten per cent of the day’s takings towards the charity Vision Aid Overseas, which is raising cash for the clinic in Zambia.

Store director Abhijit Roy said: “It is such a worthwhile cause and one that will provide a long-term solution to the people of Zambia.

“We are asking people in Lutterworth to support us and call into the store to make a donation.

“We are also making a plea for people to assist with our specs recycling initiative, so would encourage everyone to bring in their old unwanted glasses so that they can be sent to Zambia where they will, quite literally, give the gift of sight.”

Vision Aid Overseas hopes to have the clinic open in early 2010.

Specsavers is also supplying optical equipment and resources and will work with the charity to dispense glasses and train Zambian opticians so they are able to maintain the clinic themselves.
