A CINEMA club for young people holds its second screening this Saturday.
The Get Reel! film club committee – made up of children aged between eight and 15 – has arranged for the Michael J Fox 1985 science-fiction comedy Back To The Future to be screened at Harborough Theatre in Church Square from 2.30pm.

It screened the 1976 classic musical Bugsy Malone in September, which was attended by about 50 people.

The committee, which is backed by adult helpers, was formed in the wake of publicity generated by campaigners fighting to bring a cinema back to Harborough at the site of the former Ritz Cinema in Northampton Road, Harborough.

The campaign had been kick-started by Harborough youngsters Lucy Seaward and Mollie Drewery who launched a petition eventually signed by 8,000 people.

Harborough Theatre has an 118-seat auditorium with high-quality visuals, surround sound, air conditioning and comfortable, tiered seating.

Harborough’s Stephen Cook (9), one of the Get Reel! committee members, said: “I think it’s a wonderful idea that young people should get their own group to run, especially something like a cinema.”

Other films chosen by the youngsters for 2008 are Jack Black comedy School Of Rock and Muppets From Space.

Membership is not required for the 2008 screenings but from 2009 the club will be members-only.

Forms and tickets are available at Harborough District Council’s offices in Adam and Eve Street, Harborough, or from Debbie Appleby at debbieaa@live.co.uk or on 07940 751254.

Tickets can be bought on the door, costing £3 for members or £4 for non-members.
