LARGE crowds lined the streets to watch a colourful parade of floats which got Lutterworth Carnival off to the best possible start .
Floats as well as walkers in fancy dress, scouts and cubs, a Green Goddess fire engine, town criers in full costume and Melton Toy Soldiers Marching Band took part in Saturday's parade.

The town centre was temporarily closed to traffic to allow the procession to make its way along Leicester Road and Coventry Road, where it was watched by hundreds of onlookers.
The parade was led by the town criers and the marching band, followed by Feast week queen Hannah Etheridge (18), from Misterton, princess Francesca Hodges (17), from Lutterworth, and flower girls Stephanie Tansley (10) and seven-year-old Chloe Dickens, both pupils at Sherrier Primary School.
Also joining the parade was the winner of this year's Lutterworth Granny of the Year competition, Sandra Sercombe, of Coventry Road, Lutterworth, who was chaffeur-driven along the route.
Organisers of the parade chose an Olympic theme and parade entrants met the challenge with an array of medal-worthy designs.
Before they set off, the floats were gathered in Ferrers Road to be viewed by the panel of judges.
They chose Age Concern, some members of which rode the route on mobility scooters while waving the British flag, as the winner in the adult section and Lutterworth Day Nursery as the winner of the children's section.
But Asda ADC's float, which featured staff dressed as the permed, moustache-wearing runners from the 118 118 adverts, took the overall prize.
Events coordinator at Asda IDC Martin Reynolds told the Mail they we delighted to have won.
"We had a great time on the day," he said.
Other entrants in the parade included a team from BT, Magna Park, Loros hospice, The Lutterworth Club, the town's sports centre, and Lutterworth and District Round Table. The best shop window award went to J Wells and Son, in Station Road.
Competitions winners received their prizes from town mayor Ken Seymour.
